First off ... wow, has yehoodi changed since I last logged in. What happened to the regional forums?

Anyway, the latest topic on dancing in KC is 4 years old, so here's a new one to get hopefully some ne

w information:

I'm visiting the area for a couple weeks in August, and I'm looking for places to swing, blues, or westie. Where are the fun dances? I found kclindyhop.org and kcdance.com and neither seems very useful. What's the word?

Unfortunately, you may have run into the sad situation of a once active lindy scene which now exists in name only.

I visited the Kansas City Swing site (kclindyhop.org) and saw what you meant by "[didn't seem] very useful". There was no calendar. The "Who's Playing Where" link was no longer a link - just plain text. And ... most significantly ... the upper right corner of the home page indicated that the site was last updated on Feb. 1, 2010!

So ... there ya' go. The scene has essentially died. Something for those of us who live in communities which have an active scene to keep in mind. A lindy scene is a kind of garden. If it ain't actively cultivated and watered it's only a matter of time until it turns into an empty pile of dirt. Simply attending a dance once in a while doesn't support your local scene. People have to show up at events on a regular basis. And ... more importantly, at least SOME people have to volunteer their time to organize, market, and run the events. "Let Joe do it" isn't a survival plan.

Facebook people. Look up Kansas City Swing Corps, Kansas City Swing Dance, Kansas City Lindy & Blues, Alan Akers, Geoff Crawford, Kyle Patel.

http://kansascityswingcorps.com/ (mostly wcs, but email them and they'll send you the right direction).

There is some dancing available. "Scene essentially died" doesn't sound good to hear or read (though I like the garden analogy), but you can find the dedicated few in our scene who will try show you some dancing in the area. Indeed, consider contacting any one of the names listed on Facebook. They are all active in our less-than-thriving community. Also, try KU Swing Society, Joel Cunningham or Isabel Esqueda on Facebook may help.

I'd like to help out more, but I'm in that parental stage (1-year old) that doesn't make it easy to be a better host to a visitor.

Hope you find people and places to get your dance fix.

We've got a bunch of Westie stuff going on in KC. Some Lindy stuff too. Westie Stuff http://kansascityswingcorps.com https://www.facebook.com/kansascityswingcorps https://www.facebook.com/groups/kansascityswingcorps/ https://www.facebook.com/ninjaboyhya Kansas City Swing Corps does a once month dance the 4th Saturday of the month (in this case August 25th). In August we've also got visiting instructors and a J&J that same weekend. Kansas City Swing Corps also has a club night every Thursday night at Madrigall(21+)
